Doxycycline is a generic name of a tetracycline antibiotic used to treat bacterial infections, including urinary tract infections, chlamydia, gonorrhea, periodontitis, acne and a number of others. Tell your doctor about having liver or kidney disease before asking him for a prescription. Any of these conditions may a contraindication or a dosage adjustment may be required in your case. If you are allergic to doxycycline, tetracycline, demeclocycline, minocycline you mustn’t take this medicine.

Take the entire amount of doxycycline prescribed by your doctor even if you feel a lot better. Improved symptoms do not mean the infection has been completely treated. Doxycycline is not intended for children younger than 8 as it can cause permanent graying or yellowing of the teeth. Do not use this medicine past its expiration date as it may damage your kidneys. Seek emergency medical assistance if you experience any of the following serious side effects: blistering, peeling, severe skin rash, dizziness, blurred vision, urinating less than usual, fever, chills, fast heartbeat, loss of appetite, yellowing of your eyes or skin, easy bleeding or bruising, unusual weakness.
